Diet information

The Atkins’ Diet
Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet is still widely used today. Although not accepted by all scientists, it claims to allow fat reduction whilst encouraging you to eat many of the foods you love, for example bacon and hard cheeses.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a low carb/high protein, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a weight loss system invented by Cardiologist arthur agatston which encourages that one should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Agatston developed his weight loss system for people who have cardiac problems, as a consequence of his analysis of scientific data completed on other dietary studies.
Approved foods include, canadian bacon, turkey bacon, fish and shellfish, parmesan cheese, pistachios, nonfat milk and certain vegetables, such as asparagus, broccoli and mushrooms.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index nutrition and weightloss system is reliant on the gi index, a chart showing foods and an indicator of the rapidity that the carbs in the food gets transformed to sugar in the dieters body. The theory is that slow release types of food (ie those with a low Gi score), will keep you feeling full for longer and help to eat less food without feeling you are always hungry.
It is also very useful for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI foods are useful in managing rises in blood sugar secretion.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
