Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes garlic, leeks and welsh onion) The onion, leek and garlic family of vegetables is high in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is not much definitive proof published, allyl sulfides are also thought to reduce problems with colds, arteriosclerosis and insomnia. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also low in calories, so are ideal for including in your weight loss regime. The Atkins’ Diet First invented by doctor atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last few years. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it enables fat reduction whilst encouraging you to eat many of the foods you love, such as meat and butter. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, diet system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, amongst them, cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The logic behind the atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbs to convert into glucose and energy, it is the carbohydrates that are burned primarily. If we consume less carbohydrates, we will utilize our fat and we will reduce weight. Although inviting, this theory is controversial, not all experts are in agreement and some feel it can sometimes be bad for your health. |
