Diet informationThe South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet system invented by Miami-based cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses that one should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Doctor agatston invented his weight loss regime for people who have cardiac problems, as a consequence of his detailed study of scientific studies completed on other weight loss studies. "good" foods include, lean beef, chicken breast, clams, feta cheese, pecan halves, nonfat milk and some vegatables, such as green beans, collard greens and turnips. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weightloss system is based on the gi index, a list showing foods and a score representing the speed that the carbs of the food type gets changed to glucose in your body. The claim is that slow acting food types (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help to reduce your intake of food without craving snacks all the time. It is also extremely effective for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI food types are beneficial in preventing rises in blood sugar secretion. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system first created by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet is not exactly a fat reduction diet, however many 'zone dieters' claim that they manage to lose body weight when following it. The theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you can gain control of the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids which, in turn puts the body in a state of equilibrium that is a lot more wholesome than it normally is, which is known as the zone. Sears states that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its best and, as a result, does not need to convert surplus energy to fat. The key procedure of the zone diet is to monitor and control the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has high levels of Omega 3 and omega 6. |
