Types of diet

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system primarily invented by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet is not specifically a weight loss diet, but many 'zone dieters' believe that they actually manage to lose weight when following it.
The science claimed for the Zone Diet is that if you manage to gain control of the secretion of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids which, in turn puts one's body in a state of balance which is much, much more wholesome than it normally is, this is referred to as 'the zone'.
Sears holds the theory that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is perfectly balanced and, because of this, does not need to build up stores of fat.
The most important technique of the zone system is to control the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to take high levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index nutrition and weight loss system is linked to the gi (or glycaemic index), a list of foods and an indicator of the rapidity that the energy in the food gets changed to glucose in your system. The theory is that long-acting food types (ie those with a low Gi score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help you to eat less food without starving yourself.
It's also very efficient for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI food types are helpful in minimizing increases in glucose amount.

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet invented by Dr. arthur agatston which emphasizes that dieters should eat "good carbs" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Doctor agatston invented his dietary regime for people who have heart disease, as a result of his detailed study of scientific data completed on other weight loss regimes.
Approved foods include, broiled ham, turkey breast, oysters, cottage cheese, pecan halves, nonfat yoghurt and some vegatables, like butter beans, broccoli and water chestnuts.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
