Brassicas, Wonder foods that help with Weight loss (eg. Arugula, Boiled potatoes, Turnip greens and Rutabaga) Known as cruciferous vegetables, these are packed with vitamins (eg.vitamin c), minerals (including potassium and selenium), isothiocyanates, antioxidents and indole-3-carbinol. In addition to their many other great health giving properties, the vitamins and nutrients in these are thought by experts to reduce the risk of cancer. The Atkins’ Diet Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it allows weight loss but still allows you to eat many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, such as meat and eggs. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is often referred to as a high protein, low carb, diet. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including, but not limited to, cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish & poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The theory of the atkins diet is that if we eat fewer carbohydrates, our bodies will deplete the fat we have stored and we will become thinner |
