Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes garlic, white onions and spring onions) The onion and garlic range of vegetables is rich in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is not much hard medical proof present, allyl sulfides are also thought by many researchers to reduce problems with antiinflammatory effect, high blood pressure and diabetes. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also low in calories, so should be included in every diet. Wonder foods with carotenes (includes carrots, kale and tomato puree) These colorful plants have high levels of alpha and beta carotenes believed by nutritionalists be a key nutrient in helping prevent cancer, specifically those cancers involving the lung, esophagus and stomach. Many are low in calories, so you should add them to your weight loss regime. The Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index diet system is based around the gi (or glycaemic index), a list of foods and a score illustrating the speed with which the glucose of the food type gets changed to sugar in the dieters bloodstream. The theory is that long-acting food types (ie with a low Glycaemic index score), suppress your appetite and help to eat less food without feeling you are missing out. It's also very efficient for diabetics, as the low GI food types are useful in minimizing rises in glucose secretion. |
