The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index diet is linked to the gi (or glycaemic index), a list of types of food and an indicator of the speed with which the carbs of the food gets changed to sugar in the dieters system. The claim is that long-acting foods (ie with a low Gi score), will keep you feeling full for longer and mean that you can eat less food without feeling you are always hungry. It's also extremeley useful for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI foods are helpful in managing increases in blood glucose levels. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet system first advocated by Barry Sears in a number of books and publications. The Zone diet is not distinctly a fat reduction diet, but many zone diet fans find that they actually seem to lose body weight when following it. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to control the secretion of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a result puts the body in a balanced state that is far more healthy than it normally is, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears holds the theory that when your body is in this 'zone' it is working at its most efficient and, because of this, doesn't build up fat. The main process of the zone diet is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to take large amounts of Omega 3 and omega 6. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes eschalot, chives and spring onions) The onion and garlic range of vegetables is rich in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is as yet, not enough scientific proof at hand, allyl sulfides are also thought by many researchers to reduce problems with colds, arteriosclerosis and fatigue. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also good for weight loss, so make sure you add them to your diet. |
