Diet typesThe South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet started by Miami, florida-area cardiologist arthur agatston which encourages the consumption of "good carbs" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston developed his system for his cardiac patients, based on his detailed analysis of scientific studies completed on other nutritional studies. "good" foods include, lean cuts of beef, chicken breast, fish and shellfish, cottage cheese, pistachio nuts, lowfat milk and some vegatables, like black beans, broccoli and spinach. The Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index nutrition and weightloss system is based around the gi (or glycaemic index), a list showing types of food and an indicator of the ease with which the carbs of the food gets converted to glucose in your body. The claim is that long-acting foods (ie those with a low Glycaemic index score), will keep you feeling full for longer and mean that you can reduce your intake of food without starving yourself. It is also extremely beneficial for diabetics, as the low GI types of food are beneficial in preventing surges in blood sugar levels. |
