The Recipe Instructions
 

 

Ingredients

1 cup thinly sliced carrots
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 tbsp reduced calorie margarine
1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
1 (8 ounce) package noodles, cooked a, nd drained
2 cup low-fat cottage cheese
1/2 cup skim milk
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp basil
1/4 tsp thyme
1/8 tsp pepper


Directions

Yield 12 servings - 1/2 C ea. Each serving may be exchanged for: 1
Bread, 1 Low-Fat Meat

Parsley sprigs (optional)

Combine carrots, onion and margarine in non-stick skillet; cook on
medium heat until tender. Add mushrooms and cook 5 minutes; set aside
Combine remaining ingredients, except parsley, in large bowl; stir in
cooked vegetables. Turn mixture into nonstick 2 Qt. casserole. Cover
and bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until bubbly. Garnish with parsley
before serving, if desired.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet first advocated by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet isn’t specifically a weight reduction diet, although many followers claim that they really manage to lose body weight when following it.
The science claimed for the Zone Diet is that if you can control the amount of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a consequence puts one's body in a state of equilibrium which is far more healthy than it normally is, known as the 'zone'.
Sears states that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, as a result, does not need to build up stores of fat.
The main method of the system is to control the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to dose yourself with large amounts of Omega 3 and omega 6.


The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weight loss system is linked to the gi (or glycaemic index), a chart showing food types and a score representing the ease that the glucose in the food type gets changed to glucose in your bloodstream. The believe is that long-acting food types (ie with a low Gi number), keep you satiated for longer and help you to reduce your intake of food without starving yourself.
It's also extremeley effective for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI types of food are beneficial in minimizing surges in blood glucose secretion.


The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet system created by Florida-based cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses that one should eat "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Doctor agatston invented his dietary regime as an aid to patients with heart conditions, as a result of his detailed analysis of scientific studies completed on other nutritional studies.
"good" foods include, veal cutlets, turkey breast, oysters, fat free cheese, pistachios, lowfat yoghurt and some vegatables, like artichokes, cauliflower and turnips.


The Atkins’ Diet
First invented by doctor atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last decade. Popular with many famous celebrities, it allows fat reduction whilst still eating many foods that are not normally available to dieters, for example fatty meat and some dairy produce.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a low carb/high protein, nutrition and weightloss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The 'science' behind the atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbs to transform into carbohydrates, it is the carbs which are burned primarily. If we reduce your consumption of carbs, our bodies will utilize our fat and we will lose weight. Although inviting, this theory is divisive, not all researchers accept this as true and some hold that it is often dangerous.
