The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet initially created by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet isn’t exactly a fat reduction diet, however many followers find that they actually lose a few pounds by following this system. The main theory of the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to control the amount of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then your body releases eicosanoids which puts one's body in a state of equilibrium which is more healthy than usual, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears alleges that a body that is in 'the zone' is working at its most efficient and, as a result, does not need to build up stores of fat. The key procedure of the zone diet is to monitor and control the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get increased amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index weight loss program is based on the glycaemic index, a list showing food types and an indicator of the ease with which the carbs in the food type gets changed to sugar in the dieters body. The claim is that long-acting food types (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you feeling full longer and help you to consume less food without craving snacks all the time. It's also very good for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI foods are helpful in preventing surges in blood sugar amount. Foods rich in flavonoids (inlcudes garlic, fennel, scarlet runner bean & chamomile) The large family of compounds known as flavonoids discovered in these foods are thought to have properties in preventing cancer. Medical experts who have been studying the medical effects of flavonoids think they might also have numerous other benefits to our wellbeing, including anti-dermatitis and antioxidant properties. Many are also low in calories, so should be included in your diet. |
