Diet information

The Atkins’ Diet
Now nearly 5 decades old, the atkins diet is still widely used today. Although not accepted by all scientists, it allows weight reduction whilst still eating many foods that are not normally available to dieters, like meat and cheeses.
With the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is the carbs that must be avoided. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, nutrition system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With this diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet plan created by Miami-based cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses the consumption of "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Dr. agatston invented his nutritional system for people who have cardiac problems, as a consequence of his analysis of scientific research completed on other dietary studies.
Examples of good foods include, lean beef, turkey bacon, oysters, parmesan cheese, peanuts, lowfat or nonfat milk and some vegatables, like artichokes, cucumbers and sprouts.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet initially advocated by Barry Sears in a series of books. The Zone diet is not distinctly a fat reduction diet, although many zone diet followers believe that they seem to lose body weight when following it.
The main theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to gain control of the amount of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a result puts one's body in a balanced state which is far more healthful than it normally is, which is known as the zone.
Sears holds the theory that if you get into this 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, as a consequence, does not build up layers of fat.
The most important technique of the zone diet is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure you get plenty of Omega 3 fish oils.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
