Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes eschalot, white onions and welsh onion)

The alliaceae family of vegetables is rich in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer.
Even though there is as yet, not enough definitive proof published, allyl sulphides are also thought by nutritionalists to reduce the symptoms of antiinflammatory effect, arteriosclerosis and fatigue.

Foods containing allyl sulfides also help you lose weight, so should be included in your weight loss regime.

The brassicas, Wonder foods that aid Your diet
(examples: Kale, Green beans, Tatsoi and Daikon)
Altthough not always popular with children, these have large amounts of vitamins (eg.folate), minerals (eg. potassium and selenium), fibre, chlorophyll, antioxidents and isothiocyanates.

Over and above their numerous other health and weight loss benefits, these contain isothiocyanates, which are thought to reduce the risk of cancer.

The Atkins’ Diet
First invented by doctor atkins in the sixities, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Popular with many famous celebrities, it allows weight reduction whilst encouraging you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, eg lamb and some dairy produce.
With this diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is often referred to as a low carb/high protein, diet system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The theory of the atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbs to change into energy, it is the carbs that are burned primarily. If we consume fewer carbs, we will use up the fat we have stored and we will reduce weight. Although tempting, the atkins diet is controversial, not all specialists are in agreement and a good number of believe it is sometimes bad for your health.

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
