Carotenoid foods
(includes cilantro, mangos and sweet potatoes)
These foods contain carotenes (alpha and beta) thought by doctors to play a major part in minimising the risk of cancer, specifically those cancers involving the esophagus and stomach. A good number also have a low calorie count, so should be a part of every weight loss program.

Foods rich in flavonoids
(inlcudes onion, fennel, lima bean and tea)

The large family of compounds known as flavonoids which exist in these foods are believed to be good in helping to prevent cancer.
Experts looking into the nutritional effects of flavonoids suspect that they could have many benefits to our wellbeing, amongst them, anti-candida and anti-inflammatory capabilities.
Most are low in calories, so are ideal for including in your diet.

The Atkins’ Diet
Originating way back in the 1960s, the famous atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Popular with many famous celebrities, it supposedly allows weight loss but still allows you to eat many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, for example fatty meat and butter.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, weight loss program.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With this diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
