Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes pickled shallots, onions and spring onions) The onion range of vegetables is high in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is very little definitive proof present, allyl sulphides are also thought by many experts to help with blood circulation, high blood pressure and insomnia. Foods containing allyl sulfides are low in calories, so are ideal for including in your weight loss regime. Lycopene superfoods (includes guava, papaya and baby jackfruit) Lycopene is a naturally occurring pigment and member of the same group of phytochemicals as carotene. This chemical is the reason for the dark red color of a good number of types of food. Intrestingly, unlike many other nutrients, it does not become less effective if heated during cooking, but is observably enhanced by going through the cooking process. . Lycoprene's most valuable nutritional contribution is that it serves as an antioxidant and is thought to help to lower the probabilty of developing cancer. Lycopene is the most efficacious eliminator of singlet oxygen, which is associated with aging of the skin. It is also thought by many experts to prevent the growth of diseases affecting arterial blood vessels. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a weight loss regime primarily devised by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet isn’t specifically a fat reduction diet, however many 'zone dieters' believe that they really lose body weight by following this system. The 'science' behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to limit the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, in turn puts your body in a balanced state that is an awful lot more healthful than usual, known as the 'zone'. Sears claims that when your body is in this 'zone' it is perfectly balanced and, as a result, does not build up layers of fat. The most valuable procedure of the system is to keep tight control over the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to make sure your diet has increased levels of Omega 3 and omega 6. |
