The Recipe Instructions
 

 

Ingredients

Cooking spray, as needed
3 two-inch graham cracker squares, finely crushed
1 can pumpkin - (15 oz)
1 can evaporated skim milk - (12 oz)
1/4 cup dark brown sugar - (packed)
1 egg
2 egg whites
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp allspice
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup fat-free whipped topping, plus
1 tbsp fat-free whipped topping


Directions

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Coat an 8- by 8-inch baking dish with
cooking spray. Sprinkle graham cracker crumbs evenly across the bottom of
the pan.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin, milk, sugar, egg, egg whites,
cinnamon, allspice, and vanilla extract. Mix well using an electric mixer
on medium speed.

Pour the custard into the baking dish and bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour or
until knife inserted comes out clean.

Place the pan on a cooling rack and cool for 20 minutes. Cut into nine
equal servings and top with whipped topping.

This recipe yields 9 servings. Serving size: 1/9 of recipe.

Comments: What better way to showcase a holiday favorite, pumpkin? Rather
than using a traditional flour-and-shortening crust, a graham cracker
crust allows us to slash the fat considerably. Lots of spices also cuts
down on the need for too much sugar.

A low calorie weight loss regime

Put simply, the low-cal diet states that in order to reduce weight, it is important to consume less calories than you actually use.

So what is a calorie?
The calorie is the unit used for measuring the amount of energy in food. The 'calorie' is the the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 degree centigrade at atmospheric pressure. If a meal contains more calories, then it will provide your body with more energy when your body digests it.

Foods low in calories include celery, bell pepper, grapefruit, lean ham, and skimmed milk.


The Atkins’ Diet
First invented by doctor atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it claims to allow fat reduction whilst still eating many foods that are not normally available to dieters, for example beef and cheeses.
With this diet you eat protein and fat, it is the carbs that must be avoided. It is referred to as a high protein, low carb, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including, but not limited to, cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish & poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The 'science' behind the atkins diet is that if we take in less carbohydrates, our bodies will consume our stored fat and we will lose weight

Lycopene is a natural compound and one of the same group of phytochemicals as carotene. Lycopene is behind the red hue of some food types.

Unlike numerous vitamins, lycopene is not damaged if it is cooked, instead it is essentially strengthened by the cooking process.

. Lycoprene's most interesting nutritional contribution is that it is an antioxidant and is believed to help lower the risk of contracting cancer.
