The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) diet system is based around the gi (or glycaemic index), a chart showing foods and a score illustrating the ease that the glucose and energy in the food type gets converted to sugar in your blood stream. The claim is that slow release food types (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic score), keep you feeling full longer and help you to take in fewer food without feeling you are missing out. It is also very good for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI foods are useful in minimizing surges in blood glucose amount. Super foods containing lycopene (includes water melon, red peppers and cochinchin gourd) The phytochemical lycopene is a non-synthetic coloring compound and member of the same family of phytochemicals as carotene. This chemical is the agent responsible for the vivid red colour of many types of food. Unlike numerous other healthy agents, this useful phytochemical does not degrade if cooked, rather it is noticeably increased in efficacy by being heated. . Its most valuable value is that it works as an antioxidant and is believed to be an asset in the fight to lower the chances of cancer. Lycopene is the most potent fighter of singlet oxygen, which is linked with aging of the skin. It's also thought by many researchers to hamper the development of diseases affecting arterial blood vessels. |
