Foods rich in lycopene
(includes water melon, red peppers and cochinchin gourd)

The phytochemical lycopene is a naturally occurring compound and part of the carotenid family. Lycopene is the reason for the red color of a good number of fruit and vegetables.

Usefully, unlike many other healthy agents, lycopene does not become less effective if subjected to heat, but is truly enhanced by the cooking process.

. Its main nutritional contribution is that it acts as an antioxidant and appears to be of use in the fight to lower the chances of contracting cancer.

It is the strongest quencher of singlet oxygen, which is linked with skin aging. It's also thought by nutritionalists to slow down the progression of atherosclerosis.

The Atkins’ Diet
Although it originated back in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it allows weight loss whilst still eating many of the foods you love, eg lamb and hard cheese.
With the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, it is the carbs that must be avoided. It is often referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, weight loss regime.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish & poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The theory of the atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbs to convert into energy, it is the carbs which are burned first. If we eat less carbohydrates, we will utilize our stored fat and we will achieve weight loss. This theory is controversial, not all researchers concur and quite a few allege that it might be bad for your health.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
