The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a weight loss regime primarily invented by Barry Sears in a series of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t particularly a fat reduction diet, nevertheless many followers discover that they actually manage to lose weight when following it. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you control the secretion of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a result puts your body in a state of balance which is an awful lot more healthful than it normally is, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears believes that when in the 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, as a result, does not need to convert surplus energy to fat. The main method of the system is to control the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to take increased amounts of Omega 3 and omega 6. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index weight loss program is reliant on the glycaemic index, a chart showing types of food and an indicator of the rapidity with which the carbohydrates of the food type gets changed to sugar in the dieters system. The claim is that long-acting types of food (ie with a low Gi number), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help you to eat fewer food without feeling you are missing out. It is also very good for folk with diabetes, as the low GI types of food are useful in minimizing rises in blood glucose secretion. Carotenoid foods (includes paprika, rose hip puree and winter squash) These superfoods contain carotenes believed by nutritionalists play a key role in minimizing the risk of cancer, specifically those cancers involving the esophagus and stomach. The majority of these also help you lose weight, so should be a part of every weight loss regime. |
