The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet started by Miami, florida-area cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses the consumption of "good carbs" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Agatston invented the south beach diet as an aid to patients with heart conditions, based on his detailed analysis of scientific data on other diets. "good" foods include, veal cutlets, skinless poultry, shrimp, feta cheese, almonds, nonfat yoghurt and some vegatables, such as lentils, celery and spinach. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a weight loss program primarily created by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet is not specifically a fat reduction diet, but many 'zone dieters' believe that they actually manage to lose a few pounds by following it. The supposed science behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to control the levels of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which puts the body in a state of equilibrium which is much more healthful than other diets, known as the 'zone'. Sears alleges that if you get into this 'zone', your body is working at its best and, because of this, doesn't need to convert surplus energy to fat. The most interesting procedure of the system is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure your diet has increased levels of Omega 3 fish oils. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes eschalot, white onions and spring onions) The onion and garlic range of vegetables is rich in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is not much hard medical proof published, allyl sulfides are also thought to reduce symptoms with colds, sterilization and fatigue. Foods containing allyl sulfides also help you lose weight, so you should add them to your diet. |
