Types of diet

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index nutrition system is linked to the gi (or glycaemic index), a list showing food types and a score representing the speed with which the carbs in the food gets transformed to glucose in the dieters body. The theory is that slow acting types of food (ie those food types with a low Gi score), keep you satiated for longer and help you to eat less food without being miserabl;e.
It is also extremeley useful for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI food types are helpful in preventing surges in blood glucose secretion.

The Atkins’ Diet
Now nearly 5 decades old, the atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it enables weight reduction whilst encouraging you to eat many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, such as lamb and butter.
With this diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. Because of this, it is known as a low carb/high protein, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With this diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The controversial theory behind the popular atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to convert into glucose, it is the carbs which are burned first. If we cut down on carbohydrates, our bodies will use our stored fat and we will lose weight. This is the bit that is controversial, not all nutritionalists agree and some even think it might be hazardous.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
