A low calorie weight loss regime
In simple terms, the low calorie diet is based on the fact that in order to reduce weight, the important thing to take in less calories than you burn up. So what is a calorie? The calorie is the unit used for measuring the amount of energy in food. The food calorie is the the amount of energy required to raise one cubic centimeter of water by one degree centigrade. If something has higher calories, then it will gives you more energy to use when it is eaten. Low-cal food types include lettuce, cucumbers, watermelon, lower fat hot-dogs, and eggs. The Atkins’ Diet First invented by doctor atkins in the sixities, the atkins diet is still widely used today. Popular with many famous celebrities, it claims to allow weight reduction whilst allowing many of the foods you love, like fatty meat and cheeses. With this diet you eat protein and fat, it is the carbs that must be avoided. It is often referred to as a low carb/high protein, diet system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The controversial theory behind the atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to convert into glucose and energy, it is the carbohydrates which are burned first. If we take in fewer carbohydrates, we will use our stored fat and we will diet successfully. This is the bit that is divisive, not all experts are in agreement and a good number of think it is sometimes bad for your health. Lycopene rich foods (includes apricots, papaya and rosehip) Lycopene is a simple coloring agent and part of the carotenid family. Lycopene is the reason for the dark red color of many fruits and vegetables. Intrestingly, unlike most other nutrients, it does not degrade if cooked, rather it is noticeably improved by being heated. . Its most important value is that it behaves as an antioxidant and is believed to be of use in the battle to lower the risk of developing cancer. This useful phytochemical is the most effective quencher of singlet oxygen, which is linked with skin aging. It's also thought by nutritionalists to prevent the growth of diseases affecting arterial blood vessels. |
