Weight loss diets

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index nutrition and weight loss system is based around the gi (or glycaemic index), a list of types of food and an indicator of the rapidity with which the energy of the food type gets transformed to sugar in the dieters system. The theory is that slow acting foods (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you feeling full longer and help to reduce your intake of food without starving yourself.
It is also extremeley useful for people with diabetes, as the low GI food types are beneficial in preventing increases in blood sugar levels.

The Atkins’ Diet
First invented by doctor atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it allows fat reduction whilst allowing you to eat many of the foods you love, for example lamb and eggs.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is often referred to as a low carb/high protein, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The logic behind the popular atkins diet is that if we cut down on carbohydrates, we will utilize our fat and we will become thinner

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet primarily detailed by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet is not exactly a fat reduction diet, nevertheless many 'zone dieters' claim that they really manage to lose body weight by following it.
The main theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to limit the amount of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids which, in turn puts the body in a state of balance which is much more healthy than it normally is, which is known as the zone.
Sears holds the theory that when your body is in this 'zone' it is perfectly balanced and, as a consequence, doesn't need to convert surplus energy to fat.
The main technique of the zone diet is to monitor and control the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to dose yourself with plenty of Omega 3 fish oils.

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
