The Atkins’ Diet
First invented by doctor atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Although not accepted by all scientists, it supposedly allows weight loss whilst still eating many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, eg fatty meat and hard cheese.
With this diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, amongst them, cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With this diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish & poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The logic behind the atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to change into carbs, it is the carbohydrates that are burned initially. If we take in fewer carbs, we will deplete the fat we have stored and we will get rid of some fat. This is the bit that is divisive, not all doctors agree and a good number of believe it is often unsafe.

Foods high in flavonoids
(inlcudes lettuce, fennel, garden pea and peppermint)

The large family of compounds known as flavonoids present in these fruits and vegetables are thought to have properties in fighting cancer.
Doctors researching the medical effects of flavonoids think they could have numerous other healthy benefits, including anti-asthma and antioxidant capabilities.
Most are low in calories, so are ideal for including in your diet system.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
