Types of dietThe South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a weight loss system started by Dr. arthur agatston which emphasizes the consumption of "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Agatston developed his weight loss regime for his cardiac patients, based on his detailed study of scientific research on other weight loss regimes. "good" foods include, lean cuts of beef, skinless poultry, fish and shellfish, fat free cheese, pistachio nuts, nonfat yoghurt and some vegatables, like split peas, cabbage and water chestnuts. The Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index diet is linked to the gi (or glycaemic index), a list showing foods and a score representing the ease that the energy of the food gets changed to glucose in your bloodstream. The theory is that slow release types of food (ie those with a low Glycaemic index score), will keep you feeling full for longer and help you to eat less food without being miserabl;e. It is also extremely useful for people with diabetes, as the low GI foods are beneficial in reducing rises in blood sugar secretion. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition system primarily detailed by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet isn’t distinctly a weight reduction diet, however many people find that they really manage to lose body weight by following the zone diet. The main theory of the Zone Diet is that if you control the amount of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids which puts the body in a balanced state that is more healthy than normal, which is known as the zone. Sears alleges that a body that is in 'the zone' is working at its best and, as a result, does not build up layers of fat. The most important process of the system is to control the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has plenty of Omega 3 and omega 6. |
