Weight loss dietsThe Atkins’ Diet Originating way back in the 1960s, the famous atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Popular with many famous celebrities, it allows weight loss whilst encouraging you to eat foods that are normally considered bad for diets, for example lamb and egg and cheese. With this diet you eat protein and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a low carb/high protein, nutrition and weight loss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The logic behind the famous atkins diet is that if we reduce your consumption of carbs, our bodies will use our stored fat and we will lose weight The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index nutrition and weight loss system is based around the gi index, a list showing types of food and an indicator of the ease that the glucose and energy of the food type gets converted to sugar in your blood stream. The theory is that long-acting foods (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you feeling full longer and help to reduce your consumption of food without being miserabl;e. It's also extremeley effective for people with diabetes, as the low GI food types are useful in reducing increases in glucose amount. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet initially detailed by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet is not particularly a weight reduction diet, however some people claim that they actually lose a few pounds by following it. The supposed science behind the Zone Diet is that if you control the amount of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a result puts one's body in a balanced state that is much more healthy than usual, which is known as the zone. Sears holds the theory that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is much more efficient and, because of this, doesn't build up layers of fat. The most important technique of the zone system is to maintain the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to dose yourself with increased levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. |
