Types of dietThe South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a weight loss system created by Dr. arthur agatston which encourages the consumption of "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston invented this diet for his cardiac patients, as a result of his detailed study of scientific studies completed on other weight loss systems. Approved foods include, lean cuts of beef, chicken breast, fish and shellfish, provolone cheese, peanut butter, eggs and some vegatables, such as artichokes, cabbage and turnips. The Atkins’ Diet Originating way back in the 1960s, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last decade. Although not accepted by all scientists, it allows weight reduction but still allows you to eat many of the foods you love, eg meat and some dairy produce. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is the carbs that must be avoided. It is referred to as a low carb/high protein, diet. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The logic behind the popular atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbs to burn into glucose and energy, it is the carbohydrates that are burned primarily. If we reduce your consumption of carbohydrates, we will use up our stored fat and we will lose weight. This theory is controversial, not all medical experts accept this as true and a few feel it can sometimes be dangerous. |
