The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet primarily suggested by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet isn’t expressly a fat reduction diet, although many 'zone dieters' find that they really reduce body weight by following this system.
The main theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you manage to limit the secretion of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a result puts one's body in a balanced state that is an awful lot more healthy than it normally is, which is known as the zone.
Sears alleges that if you get into this 'zone', your body is much more efficient and, because of this, doesn't need to build up stores of fat.
The main method of the system is to maintain the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure you get large amounts of Omega 3 fish oils.

The low calorie diet

In a nutshell, the low-cal diet is based on the fact that if you plan to lose weight, it is essential to injest less calories than you actually use.

So what is a calorie?
A calorie is a measurement of the energy provided by food. A calorie is the the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 degree centigrade at atmospheric pressure. If your meal has higher calories, then it will gives you a larger amount of energy when it is eaten.

Low-cal food types include brussels sprouts, red peppers, watermelon, low fat hot-dogs, and skimmed milk.

Foods containing lycopene
(includes grapefruit, red bell peppers & rosehip)

The phytochemical lycopene is a non-synthetic coloring agent and member of the carotenid family. It is responsible for the red colour of a good number of fruit, vegetables and pulses.

Usefully, unlike most other nutrients, this useful phytochemical is not damaged if it is cooked, rather it is in fact made more effective by cooking.

. Its most valuable nutritional contribution is that it serves as an antioxidant and seems to be of use in the battle to lower the risk of developing cancer.

Lycopene is the most powerful carotenoid quencher of singlet oxygen, which is connected with aging of the skin. It is also thought by many researchers to curtail the development of diseases affecting arterial blood vessels.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
