Weight loss systems


The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index nutrition and weightloss system is based on the gi index, a list of foods and an indicator of the rapidity that the glucose in the food gets converted to glucose in your bloodstream. The theory is that long-acting food types (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic index score), suppress your appetite and mean that you can reduce your intake of food without feeling hungry.
It is also extremely efficient for people with diabetes, as the low GI types of food are beneficial in controlling rises in blood glucose levels.


The Atkins’ Diet
Originating way back in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Popular with many famous celebrities, it enables fat reduction whilst encouraging you to eat many of the foods you love, such as meat and egg and cheese.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. Because of this, it is known as a low carb/high protein, nutrition and weight loss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The logic behind the popular atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to burn into energy, it is the carbs which are burned first. If we reduce your consumption of carbs, we will utilise the fat we already carry and we will become thinner. This is the bit that is controversial, not all medical experts are in agreement and a few believe it can sometimes be bad for your health.




The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet initially devised by Barry Sears in a series of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t distinctly a fat reduction diet, nevertheless many zone diet fans believe that they actually reduce a few pounds by following the zone diet.
The 'science' behind the Zone Diet is that if you gain control of the amount of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts one's body in a state of balance that is far more healthful than it normally is, which is known as the zone.
Sears claims that a body that is in 'the zone' is working at its best and, because of this, doesn't build up layers of fat.
The key procedure of the system is to control the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to make sure your diet has increased amounts of Omega 3 and omega 6.
