The low-cal diet
As most people know, the low calorie diet states that if you plan to diet successfully, it is essential to take in fewer calories than you use. So what is a calorie? The calorie is the standard unit for energy measurement in dieting. The calorie is the the energy required to increase the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 degree centigrade at normal atmospheric pressure. If something has more calories, then it will provide your body with a larger amount of energy when consumed. Foods low in calories include watercress, tomato, melon, canadian bacon, and low-fat cheese. The Atkins’ Diet Originating way back in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Although highly controversial, it allows weight loss whilst allowing you to eat foods that are normally considered bad for diets, for example pork and some dairy produce. With this diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is often referred to as a low carbohydrate/high protein, weight loss regime. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The 'science' behind the popular atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to convert into energy, it is the carbohydrates that are burned initially. If we consume fewer carbohydrates, our bodies will deplete the fat we have stored and we will lose weight. Although tempting, the atkins diet is contentious, not all doctors agree and some allege that it is sometimes dangerous. Flavonoid superfoods (inlcudes citrus fruits, brussels sprouts, adzuki bean & chamomile) The large family of compounds known as flavonoids present in these fruit, vegetables and pulses are believed to be helpful as anti-carcinogens. Medical experts studying the medical effects of flavonoids believe that they also have numerous other healthy benefits, including anti-asthma and antioxidant activities.. A good number are low in calories, so should be a part of every weight loss regime. |
