Diet informationThe Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index diet is reliant on the gi (or glycaemic index), a list of types of food and a score illustrating the ease that the energy in the food type gets transformed to sugar in your blood stream. The believe is that long-acting types of food (ie with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you feeling full longer and mean that you can cut down on food without feeling you are always hungry. It is also extremely good for diabetics, as the low GI food types are helpful in managing surges in blood sugar levels. The Atkins’ Diet Originating way back in the 1960s, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last few years. Although highly controversial, it supposedly allows fat reduction whilst still eating foods that are normally considered bad for diets, like beef and hard cheeses. On the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, nutrition system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.
