Diet information

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a weight loss system started by Florida-based cardiologist arthur agatston which encourages that dieters should be eating "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Doctor agatston developed his nutritional system for people who have cardiac problems, as a consequence of his detailed analysis of scientific studies completed on other dietary studies.
"good" foods include, canadian bacon, skinless poultry, shellfish, provolone cheese, peanuts, nonfat yoghurt and some vegatables, such as chickpeas, cauliflower and sprouts.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index diet is reliant on the glycaemic index, a chart showing foods and an indicator of the speed with which the glucose of the food type gets converted to sugar in your body. The theory is that slow acting types of food (ie those foods with a low Gi score), suppress your appetite and help to reduce your intake of food without feeling you are always hungry.
It is also extremely useful for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI food types are useful in managing increases in blood glucose secretion.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet initially invented by Barry Sears in a number of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t distinctly a fat reduction diet, although many zone diet fans claim that they reduce a few pounds by following this system.
The science behind the Zone Diet is that if you control the amount of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a consequence puts your body in a state of balance which is much, much more healthful than usual, known as the 'zone'.
Sears claims that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, as a result, doesn't need to build up stores of fat.
The key technique of the diet is to control the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to dose yourself with large amounts of Omega 3 fish oils.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
