Weight loss diets

The Atkins’ Diet
Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the famous atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it claims to allow weight loss but still allows you to eat many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, like fatty meat and butter.
With the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate/high protein, nutrition and weight loss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The logic behind the famous atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbs to burn into carbs, it is the carbohydrates which are burned initially. If we eat less carbs, our bodies will burn up the fat we have stored and we will achieve weight loss. Although inviting, this theory is controversial, not all nutritionalists accept this as true and many think it is sometimes unsafe.

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet system invented by Cardiologist arthur agatston which encourages that one should eat "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Agatston invented this diet for people who have cardiac problems, as a consequence of his analysis of scientific studies completed on other nutritional studies.
Approved foods include, canadian bacon, turkey bacon, clams, provolone cheese, pistachios, lowfat or nonfat milk and certain vegetables, such as kidney beans, collard greens and mushrooms.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
