Diet informationThe Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet first advocated by Barry Sears in a series of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t specifically a weight reduction diet, although many zone diet fans discover that they seem to lose body weight when following it. The 'science' behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to limit the secretion of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a consequence puts your body in a balanced state which is a lot more healthful than other diets, this is referred to as 'the zone'. Sears holds the theory that if you get into this 'zone', your body is working at its best and, as a consequence, does not convert energy to unsightly fat. The main procedure of the system is to control the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has increased amounts of Omega 3 and omega 6. The Atkins’ Diet Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Popular with many famous celebrities, it allows weight loss whilst allowing you to eat foods that are normally considered bad for diets, for example lamb and eggs. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, nutrition and weightloss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The controversial theory behind the atkins diet is that if we cut down on carbohydrates, our bodies will use up the fat we already carry and we will become thinner The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index nutrition system is based around the glycaemic index, a list showing foods and an indicator of the ease that the carbohydrates of the food gets changed to sugar in the dieters blood stream. The theory is that slow release types of food (ie those with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help to eat less food without being miserabl;e. It's also extremely effective for people with diabetes, as the low GI foods are useful in controlling surges in glucose levels. |
