Weight loss systemsThe Atkins’ Diet First invented by doctor atkins in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it enables fat reduction whilst encouraging you to eat many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, such as meat and hard cheeses. With the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate/high protein, nutrition system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition system primarily invented by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet isn’t specifically a weight reduction diet, nevertheless many followers believe that they actually manage to lose a few pounds when following it. The supposed science behind the Zone Diet is that if you control the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts your body in a state of balance that is much more healthful than normal, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears states that when in the 'zone', your body is much more efficient and, as a consequence, doesn't build up layers of fat. The main technique of the zone diet is to maintain the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get plenty of Omega 3 and omega 6. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index nutrition system is linked to the gi index, a chart showing types of food and an indicator of the speed that the glucose in the food gets changed to sugar in your body. The theory is that long-acting food types (ie those food types with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you satiated for longer and help to reduce your consumption of food without feeling you are missing out. It's also beneficial for diabetics, as the low GI types of food are beneficial in controlling surges in blood glucose amount. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet created by Florida-based cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes that one should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston developed his system for his cardiac patients, based on his detailed analysis of scientific research completed on other nutritional studies. Approved foods include, veal cutlets, turkey breast, prawns, provolone cheese, peanuts, nonfat yoghurt and some vegatables, such as green beans, eggplant and sprouts. |
