Weight loss systems

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index nutrition and weightloss system is based on the gi (or glycaemic index), a chart showing types of food and an indicator of the rapidity with which the glucose of the food type gets transformed to glucose in your system. The believe is that slow acting food types (ie those food types with a low Gi number), will keep you feeling full for longer and help to eat less food without feeling you are always hungry.
It's also very useful for folk with diabetes, as the low GI types of food are beneficial in reducing increases in blood sugar amount.

The Atkins’ Diet
Now nearly 5 decades old, the popular atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Although highly controversial, it enables fat reduction but still allows you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, for example bacon and hard cheeses.
With this diet you eat protein and fat, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, nutrition and weightloss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition and weight loss system primarily created by Barry Sears in a series of books. The Zone diet is not expressly a weight loss diet, however many followers claim that they really manage to lose weight when following it.
The main theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you can limit the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a consequence puts your body in a state of equilibrium that is much, much more wholesome than other diets, this is referred to as 'the zone'.
Sears holds the theory that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is perfectly balanced and, because of this, does not build up fat.
The key process of the diet is to monitor and control the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to make sure your diet has plenty of Omega 3 fish oils.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
