Diet informationThe South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet system started by Cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes that dieters should be eating "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Doctor agatston invented the south beach diet as an aid to patients with heart conditions, as a result of his detailed study of scientific studies on other diets. Approved foods include, lean cuts of beef, turkey bacon, shellfish, ricotta cheese, almonds, lowfat yoghurt and certain vegetables, like butter beans, celery and turnips. The Atkins’ Diet Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Although highly controversial, it claims to allow fat reduction but still allows you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, like meat and some dairy produce. With the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. It is often referred to as a low carbohydrate/high protein, diet. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet primarily advocated by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet isn’t exactly a weight reduction diet, although some people believe that they really seem to lose weight by following the zone diet. The science claimed for the Zone Diet is that if one can control the secretion of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids which puts your body in a state of balance which is far more wholesome than normal, which is known as the zone. Sears states that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, as a result, doesn't build up fat. The most important method of the diet is to maintain the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to take increased amounts of Omega 3 fish oils. |
