Weight loss diets

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weight loss system is based on the gi (or glycaemic index), a list showing foods and a score illustrating the ease with which the glucose of the food gets transformed to glucose in the dieters system. The claim is that slow release foods (ie those food types with a low Gi score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help to reduce your intake of food without feeling you are always hungry.
It is also extremeley effective for folk with diabetes, as the low GI types of food are useful in minimizing increases in blood sugar levels.

The Atkins’ Diet
Now nearly 5 decades old, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Popular with many famous celebrities, it claims to allow fat reduction whilst encouraging you to eat many of the foods you love, for example bacon and egg and cheese.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The theory of the popular atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to burn into glucose and energy, it is the carbs which are burned primarily. If we reduce your intake of carbohydrates, we will use up our stored fat and we will become thinner. This theory is controversial, not all researchers concur and a few think it can be risky.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
