Flavonoid foods (inlcudes citrus fruits, spinach, garden pea and coriander) The flavonoids found in these fruit, vegetables and pulses are believed to be good in preventing cancer. Researchers who have been studying the properties of flavonoids suspect that they could also have most other benefits to our wellbeing, including anti-candida and anti-platelet powers. Many are also low in calories, so should be included in every diet. The Atkins’ Diet Although it originated back in the 1960s, the famous atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Although not accepted by all scientists, it claims to allow fat reduction but still allows you to eat many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, for example pork and hard cheeses. On the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate/high protein, diet. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, amongst them, cereals and pasta made from white flour. On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish & poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil. |
