The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a weight loss program first devised by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet is not particularly a fat reduction diet, but many zone diet fans believe that they actually seem to lose weight by following it. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you gain control of the levels of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts one's body in a state of balance which is an awful lot more healthful than other diets, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'. Sears holds the theory that when in the 'zone', your body is much more efficient and, as a result, doesn't need to build up stores of fat. The most important technique of the diet is to control the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure your diet has increased levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet created by Miami-based cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes that one should eat "good carbs" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Agatston invented the south beach diet as an aid to patients with heart conditions, based on his detailed analysis of scientific data completed on other nutritional studies. "good" foods include, lean beef, skinless poultry, seafood, mozzarella cheese, almonds, nonfat yoghurt and certain vegetables, like kidney beans, broccoli and water chestnuts. Lycopene rich foods (includes apricots, red peppers and spiny bitter gourd) The nutrient lypcopene is a natural compound and one of the same family of phytochemicals as carotene. Lycopene is the agent responsible for the red color of many types of food. Usefully, unlike many nutritional compounds, lycopene is not damaged if it is cooked, instead it is truly increased in efficacy by going through the cooking process. . Lycoprene's most important theraputic value is that it serves as an antioxidant and is thought to help to lower the risk of developing cancer. It is the most effective quencher of singlet oxygen, which is correlated with skin aging. It's also thought by many researchers to block the development of diseases affecting arterial blood vessels. |
