Types of diet

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) diet is based around the glycaemic index, a chart showing food types and a score representing the ease with which the glucose of the food type gets changed to sugar in the dieters system. The believe is that slow release food types (ie those with a low Glycaemic score), keep you satiated for longer and help you to reduce your consumption of food without feeling you are missing out.
It is also extremely good for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI food types are helpful in managing increases in glucose levels.

The low calorie diet

Put simply, the low calorie diet says that if you are going to become thinner, it is important to reduce your intake of calories than you use.

Definition of a calorie?
A calorie is a unit of measurement for energy. A food calorie is the amount of heat required to raise 1 kilogram of water 1 degree centigrade. If a food type has more calories, then it will provide your body with more energy when it is eaten.

Foods low in calories include brussels sprouts, mushrooms, grapefruit, beef, and low-fat cheese.

The Atkins’ Diet
Originating way back in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Although not accepted by all scientists, it claims to allow weight loss whilst still eating many foods that are not normally available to dieters, for example pork and hard cheeses.
With this diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a high protein, low carb, nutrition system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The theory of the atkins diet is that if we reduce your consumption of carbohydrates, we will deplete our stored fat and we will become thinner

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
