Weight loss systems

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system primarily suggested by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet isn’t particularly a fat reduction diet, although some people find that they manage to lose body weight by following it.
The 'science' behind the Zone Diet is that if you can limit the levels of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, as a result puts your body in a balanced state which is an awful lot more healthful than other diets, known as the 'zone'.
Sears holds the theory that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is working at its best and, as a result, does not build up layers of fat.
The most important procedure of the system is to keep tight control over the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has high levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) diet is based on the glycaemic index, a chart showing foods and an indicator of the ease that the carbohydrates in the food gets transformed to sugar in the dieters system. The claim is that long-acting types of food (ie those with a low Glycaemic score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and mean that you can cut down on food without being miserabl;e.
It's also beneficial for people with diabetes, as the low GI food types are useful in controlling rises in blood glucose levels.

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a weight loss system invented by Miami-based cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes that one should eat "good carbs" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Agatston developed his nutritional system for people who have heart disease, as a consequence of his detailed study of scientific research on other weight loss regimes.
"good" foods include, veal cutlets, skinless poultry, clams, fat free cheese, pecan halves, nonfat yoghurt and some vegatables, like green beans, cauliflower and snow peas.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
