Wonder foods with carotenes
(includes cilantro, turnip greens and sweet potatoes)
These orange and green plants are rich in alpha-carotene and beta-carotene thought by many play a key role in helping stop cancer, spefically cancer of the lung, esophagus and stomach. The majority of these also have a low calorie count, so should be included in your diet system.

Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes garlic, chives and green onion)

The onion and garlic family of vegetables is rich in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer.
Even though there is insufficient scientific proof at hand, allyl sulfides are also thought to aid in colds, sterilization and diabetes.

Foods containing allyl sulfides are also good for weight loss, so should be included in every weight loss regime.

The Atkins’ Diet
Now nearly 5 decades old, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last decade. Although highly controversial, it enables weight loss but still allows you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, like meat and butter.
With the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is referred to as a low carb/high protein, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish & poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The logic behind the atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbs to convert into energy, it is the carbs that are burned first. If we consume less carbs, our bodies will consume our stored fat and we will get rid of some fat. This is the bit that is divisive, not all doctors agree and quite a few think it might be dangerous.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
