Diet informationThe South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet system created by Miami-based cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses that one should consume "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston developed his weight loss system for his cardiac patients, based on his analysis of scientific data completed on other weight loss studies. Approved foods include, canadian bacon, turkey bacon, fish and shellfish, parmesan cheese, pistachio nuts, nonfat milk and some vegatables, such as kidney beans, cabbage and mushrooms. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weightloss system is linked to the gi index, a list showing types of food and an indicator of the ease with which the glucose and energy of the food gets converted to sugar in the dieters system. The theory is that slow acting types of food (ie with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you feeling full longer and help you to cut down on food without starving yourself. It is also extremely effective for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI types of food are useful in minimizing rises in blood glucose secretion. |
