Diet information

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system primarily detailed by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet isn’t specifically a fat reduction diet, but many zone diet fans claim that they actually lose weight by following this system.
The main theory of the Zone Diet is that if you can control the levels of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts your body in a state of balance which is more wholesome than normal, known as the 'zone'.
Sears holds the theory that a body that is in 'the zone' is much more efficient and, because of this, does not build up layers of fat.
The main process of the zone diet is to monitor and control the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to dose yourself with plenty of Omega 3 fish oils.

The Atkins’ Diet
Now nearly 5 decades old, the famous atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Popular with many famous celebrities, it claims to allow fat reduction whilst allowing many foods that are not normally available to dieters, for example bacon and hard cheese.
With the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a low carb/high protein, nutrition and weightloss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) diet is based around the gi index, a chart showing food types and a score illustrating the rapidity with which the glucose and energy of the food gets transformed to sugar in the dieters body. The believe is that slow acting foods (ie those foods with a low Gi score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and mean that you can reduce your intake of food without craving snacks all the time.
It's also extremely beneficial for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI foods are useful in managing increases in blood sugar secretion.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
