Diet information

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weight loss system is linked to the gi (or glycaemic index), a list of food types and an indicator of the rapidity that the carbohydrates of the food gets changed to glucose in the dieters blood stream. The claim is that long-acting foods (ie those food types with a low Gi score), suppress your appetite for longer and mean that you can reduce your consumption of food without starving yourself.
It's also very beneficial for folk with diabetes, as the low GI foods are beneficial in managing surges in glucose amount.

The Atkins’ Diet
First invented by doctor atkins in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last decade. Popular with many famous celebrities, it claims to allow weight loss but still allows you to eat many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, such as pork and butter.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate, high protein, nutrition and weight loss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The 'science' behind the famous atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to burn into energy, it is the carbohydrates that are burned initially. If we reduce your intake of carbohydrates, our bodies will use up the fat we already carry and we will achieve weight loss. This theory is divisive, not all researchers agree and a few believe it is sometimes dangerous.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
