Types of dietThe Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition system first suggested by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet is not particularly a fat reduction diet, nevertheless many zone diet followers believe that they actually manage to lose a few pounds when following it. The 'science' behind the Zone Diet is that if you manage to gain control of the amount of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, in turn puts your body in a state of equilibrium that is much, much more healthy than other diets, which is known as the zone. Sears states that if you get into this 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, because of this, does not need to convert surplus energy to fat. The main procedure of the system is to monitor and control the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure your diet has large amounts of Omega 3 and omega 6. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index diet is based on the glycaemic index, a list showing food types and a score illustrating the rapidity with which the carbs in the food gets transformed to glucose in your system. The claim is that long-acting types of food (ie those foods with a low Gi score), keep you satiated for longer and help you to reduce your consumption of food without feeling you are missing out. It's also very beneficial for diabetics, as the low GI types of food are helpful in reducing rises in glucose amount. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet created by Dr. arthur agatston, a cardiologist from miami, usa, which encourages that dieters should eat "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Doctor agatston developed this diet for his cardiac patients, based on his detailed study of scientific research completed on other diets. Good foods include, lean beef, chicken breast, prawns, mozzarella cheese, peanut butter, lowfat milk and some vegatables, like lentils, broccoli and snow peas. The Atkins’ Diet Now nearly 5 decades old, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last few years. Although not accepted by all scientists, it claims to allow fat reduction whilst allowing you to eat many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, such as fatty meat and hard cheeses. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is the carbs that must be avoided. It is referred to as a high protein, low carb, nutrition and weight loss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil. |
