Types of diet


The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index diet is reliant on the gi index, a list showing foods and a score representing the speed that the glucose in the food gets changed to sugar in the dieters blood stream. The believe is that slow acting types of food (ie those with a low Gi number), will keep you feeling full for longer and mean that you can eat less food without feeling hungry.
It's also extremely efficient for diabetics, as the low GI types of food are helpful in managing increases in glucose secretion.


The Atkins’ Diet
Now nearly 5 decades old, the famous atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it supposedly allows fat reduction whilst allowing you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, like lamb and hard cheeses.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is often referred to as a low carb/high protein, nutrition and weight loss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The logic of the famous atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to transform into carbohydrates, it is the carbs that are burned first. If we eat less carbohydrates, our bodies will consume our stored fat and we will lose weight. This is the bit that is contentious, not all researchers accept this as true and some even think it might be risky.




The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition system first created by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet isn’t specifically a weight loss diet, however many zone diet followers believe that they manage to lose body weight by following the zone diet.
The supposed science behind the Zone Diet is that if you can control the amount of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, in turn puts one's body in a balanced state that is much, much more wholesome than it normally is, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone".
Sears claims that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, because of this, doesn't build up fat.
The key technique of the system is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to make sure your diet has plenty of Omega 3 fish oils.
