The Atkins’ Diet
First invented by doctor atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Popular with many famous celebrities, it allows fat reduction but still allows you to eat foods that are normally considered bad for diets, such as beef and some dairy produce. With the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is often referred to as a low carb/high protein, diet system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. With this diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index diet system is reliant on the gi index, a list showing foods and a score illustrating the speed with which the energy in the food gets changed to sugar in the dieters blood stream. The theory is that slow release food types (ie those food types with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you feeling full longer and mean that you can consume less food without being miserabl;e. It is also extremeley useful for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI foods are useful in controlling surges in blood glucose amount. Superfoods rich in flavonoids (inlcudes lettuce, broccoli, adzuki bean & tea) The nutrients called 'flavonoids' discovered in these fruits and vegetables are believed to have properties in preventing cancer. Experts looking into the medical effects of flavonoids think that they may also have most other healthy benefits, including anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory activities.. Most also help you lose weight, so should be a part of every diet system. |
