Foods rich in flavonoids (inlcudes garlic, spinach, kidney bean & basil) The large family of compounds known as flavonoids discovered in these foods show promise in preventing cancer. Medical experts investigating the nutritional effects of flavonoids believe they may also have numerous health benefits, amongst them, anti-dermatitis and antiplatelet capabilities. A good number also have a low calorie count, so should be included in your weight loss regime. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet system primarily invented by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet isn’t specifically a weight reduction diet, however many 'zone dieters' discover that they actually reduce a few pounds when following it. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you manage to limit the amount of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids which, in turn puts the body in a state of equilibrium that is far more healthy than other diets, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'. Sears believes that when your body is in this 'zone' it is much more efficient and, as a result, doesn't build up layers of fat. The most interesting procedure of the diet is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to take increased levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. |
