Weight loss diets

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet first invented by Barry Sears in a series of books. The Zone diet is not specifically a fat reduction diet, however many people find that they really manage to lose a few pounds when following it.
The main theory of the Zone Diet is that if you can limit the levels of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a result puts the body in a state of equilibrium which is a lot more healthy than usual, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'.
Sears claims that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is much more efficient and, as a result, does not need to build up stores of fat.
The main procedure of the diet is to monitor and control the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to take high levels of Omega 3 and omega 6.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index nutrition system is based on the glycaemic index, a chart showing food types and a score representing the ease that the carbohydrates of the food gets changed to sugar in your system. The believe is that long-acting types of food (ie those food types with a low Gi score), will keep you feeling full for longer and help you to eat less food without feeling you are always hungry.
It is also very useful for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI foods are helpful in preventing rises in glucose levels.

The Atkins’ Diet
Originating way back in the 1960s, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last few years. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it allows weight loss whilst allowing you to eat many of the foods you love, for example beef and egg and cheese.
On the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. It is often referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The logic behind the atkins diet is that if we eat less carbs, we will burn up our stored fat and we will achieve weight loss

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet started by Dr. arthur agatston which emphasizes that one should eat "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Dr. agatston developed his weight loss regime for people who have heart disease, as a consequence of his detailed study of scientific data completed on other diets.
"good" foods include, lean cuts of beef, chicken breast, oysters, mozzarella cheese, peanut butter, lowfat yoghurt and some vegatables, like artichokes, cauliflower and turnips.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
